Denmark&Me ("we", "us", "our") is operated by Denmark&ME I/S, based in Denmark. We are committed to protecting your personal data in compliance with the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and Danish data protection law.

1. What data we collect

We collect only the data necessary to provide the service:

• Account data: your username and email address, provided when you sign up.
• Study data: words you save to your vocabulary, flashcard review history, and reading activity. This data is used solely to power your personalised learning experience.
• Usage data: basic server logs (IP address, browser type, pages visited) retained for up to 30 days for security and debugging purposes.

We do not collect payment information directly. We do not run third-party advertising. We do not sell your data to anyone.

2. Legal basis for processing

We process your personal data on the following legal bases:

• Contract (GDPR Art. 6(1)(b)): processing your account data is necessary to provide the service you signed up for.
• Legitimate interest (GDPR Art. 6(1)(f)): server logs for security and abuse prevention.

3. How we use your data

• To operate and personalise your learning experience (saved vocabulary, streak tracking, flashcard scheduling).
• To send transactional emails — password reset and account notifications. We do not send marketing email without your explicit consent.
• To maintain the security and stability of the service.

4. Data storage and retention

Your data is stored on servers hosted by Scalingo SAS, located in France (EU). Data is retained for as long as your account is active. When you delete your account, all personal data — including vocabulary, study history, and progress — is permanently deleted immediately. Server logs are deleted after 30 days.

5. Your rights

Under GDPR, you have the right to:

• Access the personal data we hold about you.
• Correct inaccurate data.
• Delete your data — you can do this yourself at any time from your account settings.
• Object to or restrict processing in certain circumstances.
• Lodge a complaint with the Danish Data Protection Authority (Datatilsynet) at datatilsynet.dk.

6. Cookies

We use a single session cookie to keep you logged in. This cookie is strictly necessary for the service to function and does not require consent under the ePrivacy Directive. We do not use tracking or advertising cookies.

7. Third-party services

• DeepL: word translation requests are sent to DeepL's API. The word and its surrounding sentence context are transmitted. See DeepL's Privacy Policy.
• Google Fonts: fonts are loaded from Google's CDN. This transmits your IP address to Google. See Google's Privacy Policy.

8. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the service evolves. Material changes will be communicated by updating the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Continued use of the service after changes constitutes acceptance.
